The journal Science publishes and remarks in the cover a work done with the collaboration of the researchers at the IBMCP Antonio Granell and Antonio Monforte ("A chemical genetic roadmap to improved tomato flavor", Science 355 (6323): 391-394). In this work, genes controlling the production of 13 flavor-associated chemicals existing in heirloom varieties but barely present in commercial ones have been identified. They will hopefully be used as molecular tools to improve the flavor in commercial varieties of tomato.
